The Government of Maharashtra appointed MMRDA as the New Town Development Authority (NTDA) on 15 October 2024 and approved the Land Acquisition & Land Allocation Policy on 16 March 2026 for the NTDA and future MMRDA projects, in accordance with the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966.

The designated area is named “K. S. C. New Town.” It comprises an area of 323.44 sq. km.
