The extension of the corridor to Uran is set to significantly improve regional connectivity, benefiting Third Mumbai and its Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieved a significant milestone by inaugurating the 14.60-kilometer Kharkopar-Uran stretch, a pivotal section of the 27-kilometer Belapur-Seawoods to Uran suburban corridor. This project, valued at Rs 2973.35 crore, was funded through a partnership between Maharashtra’s CIDCO and the Railways, with contributions split at 67% and 33%, respectively.

The extension of services aims to support investors interested in land and plots in the Khopta new township, as well as residents and daily commuters, by offering an affordable and eco-friendly transportation option. This initiative is expected to notably enhance connectivity to Third Mumbai and Navi Mumbai

The project will be pivotal in linking the forthcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and will enhance commuting for travellers heading to the MTHL (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link), JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust), and Uran region.

Beginning January 13th, the suburban services currently operating between Nerul/Belapur and Kharkopar will be extended to Uran, with stops at Gavhan, Ranjanpada, Nava Sheva, and Dronagiri stations. This expansion is poised to be a major catalyst for investors who are increasingly investing in the Khopta township, newly formed NTDA ( New Town Development Authority) developed by government bodies such as MMRDA, CIDCO, NAINA. Local railways are integral to Mumbai’s daily commute, known for affordability and time efficiency, making this extension crucial for the region’s development.
