MSRDC Starts Work On The Longest Metro Line From

Virar to Alibaug

CIDCO, Maharashtra’s City and Industrial Development Corporation, is committed to enhancing connectivity within the by expanding the Navi Mumbai Metro network. This forms a crucial part of CIDCO’s comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) aimed at modernizing the region’s infrastructure.

Improving Access to Navi Mumbai International Airport CIDCO’s ambitious plan includes establishing a new 35 km Airport Express Line metro to link Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport. This line is expected to accommodate a daily ridership of 9 lakh passengers, with an estimated cost of approximately ₹15,000 crore.

Collaborative Project with MMRDA The project involves a partnership between CIDCO and MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority): • MMRDA, in collaboration with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), will construct Metro Line 8, spanning 11.1 km from CSMIA to Mankhurd. • CIDCO will extend Metro Line 8 from Mankhurd to Navi Mumbai airport.

Expansion of Navi Mumbai Metro in NAINA CIDCO has already launched Line 1 of the Navi Mumbai Metro (NMM) and plans to introduce two additional routes within NAINA to enhance connectivity to the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). These expansions are pivotal in CIDCO’s strategy to strengthen regional transportation links. Securing Government Funding CIDCO has initiated the appointment of a consultant to develop a CMP, which is crucial for securing significant grant funding from the central government. The recent budget allocated ₹539.37 crore for NAINA’s development and ₹690 crore specifically for metro expansion. NAINA: A Hub for Growth Covering 371 sq km, NAINA includes 94 villages within a 25 km radius of NMIA. CIDCO’s substantial investment in infrastructure underscores its commitment to fostering future growth in the region. Recent Developments On March 4th, the Maharashtra Urban Development Department transferred responsibility for developing 80 villages from CIDCO to MMRDA, reducing CIDCO’s oversight in NAINA to 94 villages. Additionally, development rights for the Khopta township’s 33 villages were transferred to MMRDA.

Proposed Metro Routes CIDCO has proposed two primary metro routes in NAINA: • Ulwe Coastal Road to Ambivali: This route prioritizes rapid connectivity between NAINA and NMIA, aiming to reduce travel times. • Kalamboli-Chikhale-Kon Corridor: This route aims to improve access to key locations such as Panvel and Taloja MIDC. Collaboration for Success Mohan Ninawe, CIDCO’s public relations officer, highlights the critical role of these metro routes in the region’s development. Future plans include additional lines connecting Taloja to NMIA (Lines 2, 3, and 4) and extending from Belapur to Mankhurd (Line 8A).

Comprehensive Mobility Plan: Key to Approval Ninawe emphasizes the importance of the CMP under the Metro Rail Policy for securing funding and support. CIDCO has initiated the CMP tender process to facilitate project approval. Progress on Detailed Project Report CIDCO collaborates with UMTC to develop a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for proposed metro corridors, focusing on effective alignments to connect Pendhar, Taloja, Kasadi, Kalamboli, Kamothe, Khandeshwar, and NMIA. CIDCO’s collaborative efforts underscore its dedication to developing robust metro infrastructure that meets Navi Mumbai’s growing transportation needs.
