The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has secured the contract for three significant infrastructure projects that will enhance transport connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). With a total investment of ₹116,000 crores, these initiatives are poised to transform travel in the area. The first project, the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor , spans 100 km and will feature an eight-lane expressway. This corridor is designed to accommodate future Metro rail connectivity and will link key locations such as Vasai, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Ambernath, Panvel, Uran, and Pen.
The corridor will be an essential route to the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport, JNPT Port, the Atal Setu, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), and a dedicated freight corridor. It is expected to cut travel time between Virar and Alibaug by 50%, serving as a shortcut connecting various areas in the MMR and Goa region.
